Song of the Month Archives
The Knox Band has been teaching a new song each month to expand the musical vocabulary with which we worship God. Our music blends a variety of genres, styles, and perspectives as a means of reflecting the diversity of our congregation and the different ways we relate to the triune God. The Songs Of The Month are intended to reflect this diversity. Some are older, some are newer; some are classics and others are written by members of our congregation; some express personal devotion while still others proclaim attributes of God.
January
January: Zechariah's Song - mp3
by James Beauregard and Keri Taylor, 2010Lyrics:
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; He has brought redemption to His people.
The Lord will show the mercy He has promised
That we may ever serve Him, holy and righteous.
Chorus:
From the shadow of death He'll guide our feet
Into the way of redemption and peace.
We'll find salvation by the tender mercy of our God.
He has raised for us a Mighty Savior.
As He swore he's looked on us with favor.
The dawn from on high will break upon us
To give light to those who sit in darkness

September: Alive In Us - mp3
by Jason Ingram and Reuben Morgan, 2010Hillsong’s Alive In Us declares the truth of the resurrection, which is the heart of the Christian narrative: in his death and resurrection Jesus Christ has defeated the powers of sin and death which hold the world captive, and he now lives and reigns in us, freeing us to be, as Paul writes, “in Christ.” Above all, this demonstrates God’s deep love for us, a love that conquers even death. What a beautiful mystery this is!
Lyrics:
Great is your love, let the whole earth sing, let the whole earth sing. You reached for us from on heaven’s throne when we had no hope.
You are the way, there is no other.
You are the way, there is no other.
Chorus:
You rose from death to victory.
You reign in life, o Majesty.
Your name be high and lifted up,
Jesus, Jesus, alive in us.
You outshine the sun, you are glorious, you are glorious,
Lord over all, you have made us new, we owe it all to you.
You are the way, there is no other.
You are the way, there is no other.
Bridge:
The enemy is under your feet; we are free, we are free.
Death has been defeated by love; you overcome, you overcome.

By Our Love - mp3
by Christy Nockels, 2009Unlike many songs we sing in worship, By Our Love is not addressed to God, but is a song we sing to our brothers and sisters in the Church, encouraging and challenging each other to live out our call to be vessels of God’s love to the world. Based on the Johannine theme of loving others as Christ loved us, Nockels’ song is not only a reminder but also an exhortation to live in such a way that our neighbors will “know us by our love.”
Lyrics:
Brothers, let us come together,Walking in the Spirit, there's much to be done.
We will come reaching out from our comforts
And they will know us by our love.
Sisters, we were made for kindness,
We can pierce the darkness as He shines through us.
We will come reaching, with a song of healing
And they will know us by our love.
Chorus:
The time is now, come, Church, arise,
Love with His hands, see with His eyes.
Bind it around you, let it never leave you.
And they will know us by our love.
Children, You are hope for justice.
Stand firm in the truth now, set your hearts above.
You will be reaching long after we’re gone,
And they will know you by your love!

God Who Saves - mp3
by Aaron Senseman, 2001Lyrics:
There is life in the blood of the lamb who was slainThere is power, there is power in his name
There is love pouring out of the wounds that were made
Pouring out, pouring over our shame
Chorus:
So praise the God who saves
Praise the God who bled
Praise the God who was nailed to a tree
And bore our sins upon his head
There is truth in his body, raised that third day
There is joy in a stone rolled away
There is hope pouring out of the tomb where he lay
Pouring out, pouring over the grave
Bridge:
For he lives that we too might live
And he loves that we might also love
And know the glory of God above

Come, People Of The Risen King - mp3
by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend, 2007In light of the celebration of Easter, this song calls the church to rejoice in Christ’s resurrection. It calls young and old, weak and strong from every tribe, tongue and nation to gather and joyfully proclaim the reign of our Risen King.
Lyrics:
Come, people of the risen King who delight to bring Him praise,Come, all and tune your hearts to sing of the Morning Star of grace
From the shifting shadows of the earth we will lift our eyes to Him
Where steady arms of mercy reach to gather children in
Chorus:
Rejoice, rejoice, let every tongue rejoice
One heart, one voice, o Church of Christ rejoice!
Come, those whose joy is morning sun and those weeping through the night
Come, those who tell of battles won and those struggling in the fight
For His perfect love will never change and His mercies never cease
But follow us through all our days with the certain hope of peace
Come, young and old from every land, men and women of the faith
Come, those with full or empty hands, find the riches of His grace
Over all the world His people sing, shore to shore we hear them call
The truth that cries through every age, our God is all in all

Mercies Anew - mp3
by Bob Kauflin and Mark Altrogge, 2002As we enter the season of Lent, this song is a humble reminder of our frailty. Yet even when we stumble and fall, God’s mercy never fails and is new each morning.
Lyrics:
Every morning that breaks there are mercies anewEvery breath that I take is Your faithfulness proved
At the end of each day when my labors are through
I will sing of Your mercies anew
When I’ve fallen and strayed there were mercies anew
For You sought me in love and my heart You pursued
In the face of my sin, Lord, You never withdrew
So I’ll sing of Your mercies anew
Chorus:
And Your mercies, they will never end
For ten thousand years they’ll remain
And when this world’s beauty has passed away
Your mercies will be unchanged
And when the storms swirl in rage there are mercies anew
In affliction and pain You will carry me through
And at the end of my days when Your throne fills my view
I will sing of Your mercies anew

Our God - mp3
by Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman, 2010A recent contribution from the Passion worship team, this song reminds us of the strength and power of God, who is so committed to being for us that nothing can stand between God and those he has claimed and adopted as his own.
Lyrics:
Water You turned into wine, opened the eyes of the blindThere’s no one like You, none like You
Into the darkness You shine; out of the ashes we rise
There’s no one like You, none like You
Chorus:
Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God, You are higher than any other
Our God is healer, awesome in power
Our God, our God
Bridge:
And if our God is for us then who could ever stop us?
And if our God is with us, then what could stand against?
